The Sunday Post #9

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~A post to recap the past week on the blog and showcase books and things we have received.

I feel as if all I am doing is writing Sunday Posts one after the other!

Welcome to yet another of these Sunday Posts! As per usual, let me ramble a bit about what’s going on in my life before moving on to the recap and highlights.

Last week was made better because of you guys! Yes, you! This month’s views crossed the last month’s and honestly I have never seen so much traffic on my blog ❀ Thank you so much! This might also be due to the fact that I am actually making every possible effort to get the posts up on time and maintain a schedule and so far I have been successful. So, pro tip: Post regular and good content to increase engagement on your blog.

You might have noticed that I recently started a bookstagram account. I haven’t been able to post much there and for a long time now, I haven’t taken any bookish pics :/ A major reason for not taking any pics is the fact that I don’t have a properly-lit place. My house is west-facing which means I have the luxury to take photos in sunlight by late afternoon but recently we moved one flat down and now though we do still receive sunlight, it’s just not enough. I can always go back up and take photos there but I am a lazy soul and would rather not. I will try tho! Do you have a bookstagram? How do you take photos?

Things are going great on the language learning front. I know a few basic phrases and words and it would be a little easier for me than before to understand what a person is saying in Arabic. Funny how when you don’t know a language all you hear is blah, blah, blah.

And lastly, a big shout out to the person who binge-read my posts and drastically increased my daily views number ❀

I was nominated for the Brotherhood of the World award a looooong time back by the lovely Emma @Thoughts of A Brown Eyed Girl. Remember me telling you that I will do all the tags and awards that I was tagged for before I took that 6 month-long hiatus? This is one of those. If want to be tagged in any of these posts, don’t be shy and lemme know!

Yes, not a review but a talk. I talked about ‘Rats, Mice and Other Things You Can’t Take To A Bank’ by Leslie Handler. A non-fiction memoir, a collection of various essays. I loved reading this and it definitely impressed me. I would recommend this to everyone. I love the way the heavier topics were covered in a light, humorous and yet informative way.

PS If you want to know why I didn’t ‘review’ this book, just take a look at my updated ‘Policy Page‘.

On Friday, I posted yet another episode of the series. In this one, the fabulous Jess Combs lets us in on West Virginian secret πŸ˜‰

And before I forget, I am forever in need of bloggers to contribute for the ‘Around the World’ series. I have had so many lovely bloggers take part and would love to add more. If you know a book based in your region/country/state that you think perfectly represents you and your people, then what are you waiting for? Please DM me on twitter or use the Contact form.

Posts I enjoyed reading

If you want me to include your post in next week’s highlights, just message me with your postΒ πŸ™‚Β Sometimes, I may not come across your post while blog hopping.

And that’s a wrap folks!

    1. I have posted book photos which do look quite well, but yes everyone else’s pics seem so much better 😍 What I struggle with is primarily the task of putting the props together and clicking the actual photo πŸ˜‚

  1. Erk I too feel like I’m constantly writing Sunday posts. Last week that was the ONLY post I had on my blog. I NEED to be more consistent with my blog posts, and striving to be better. Despite blogging for a long time, I get moods where I post alot to when I post next to nothing. Must really get more organised.

I’ve got a bookstagram but at this point I just want to concentrate on my blog and getting regular posts up. I love taking photos, but seeing some of the amazing #bookstagrammers out there, I just don’t have time at the moment to create those kinds of masterpieces. Like yourself I don’t get much sun in my home, so I need to do pics outside or get lighting and I don’t have props, but maybe one day. Good luck in your new endeavour of bookstagram, I’m sure you’ll be great.

    1. Thank you so much Angelica!

I totally get your point on blog posts. There are days when am motivated to write all of the month’s blog posts and then there are days where I want nothing to do with posts! It sometimes is really frustrating especially considering the fact that I only manage to churn out ONE post on any given day. I have found that no matter how hard I try, it is impossible for me to write more than a post in a day :/

I started my bookstagram account with much vigor but now I feel I have lost all motivation for it. I just cannot push myself to take photos or create a proper setup, and like you, I too am giving more time and attention to my blog.

Thank you so much for visiting!

  2. I also really enjoy Sunday posts πŸ™‚ it’s just sad that lately the list of people linking up has been shrinking! It used to be around 200 sometimes. I don’t know where everyone has gone! Argh.

The first time I joined I got like 40 comments on my first Sunday post and I was FLOORED xD it had never happened on my blog before. It was an amazing welcome πŸ™‚

Yeah, lighting used to be a big problem for me too, because my mom’s apartment is very dark. The one where I live with my boyfriend has plenty of light, but you wouldn’t believe that I actually take most of the pics at mom’s know (cause there are more trinkets, lol). You can find a way. It takes time and practice πŸ™‚ usually, there’s a time of day and a spot just by the window where you can make it work. Remember, that BOOKSTAGRAM IS BASICALLY A LIE πŸ˜€ you need a really small space where things will work, and it doesn’t matter if you create it with smoke and mirrors πŸ˜€ that’s what bookstagram is! So keep trying πŸ™‚

    1. I agree! The number of people linking up has drastically decreased. A year ago when I joined, I do remember that it used to be in the 100’s and now, it’s usually 60 to 70 (atm it’s 64). Sad that so many people are leaving (?).

Also, thanks for the mirror idea, Eva! Why didn’t I think of that before πŸ˜‚

    1. I too am like you! I spend most of my time on my blog and also use twitter way more than Instagram. The follow/unfollow trend on Instagram is much more there than on Twitter and really makes me think whether I should keep the account or delete it all together.

  3. I recently joined Instagram myself and I do have some lighting issues as well, but I’ve been kinda winging it. πŸ™‚ I’m in awe though of those bookstagrammers who can really take awesome pics!

Congrats on the page views too!
